May Goals

May Goals

I recently received...wait. not received. it wasn't a gift. Let me try that again. I EARNED my Bachelor’s from the University of Central Florida and I swear, if there is one thing that I learned in all my years at that school, it’s SMART goals. Almost every. single. class had us set these types of goals for ourselves. I am pretty sure you could test me on what a SMART goal is when I’m 92 when I don’t even know my own name any more and I would pass with flying colors. I have always been a goal setter so for me, it wasn’t really any new information…just a more formal way of putting things on paper. So what is it exactly? Specific, Measurable/Meaningful, Achievable/Action Oriented, Relevant/Realistic, and Timely.

Here are my goals for the month of May!

1. Read 4 books

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

The Giver by Lois Lowry

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

2. Write 4 blog posts

I currently have 8 planned and 5 already outlined so we shall see how many I actually put into fruition and post…yes I am totally counting this as one of the posts.

3. Drink 68 oz. of water everyday

Why? See future blog post…yes that’s one of the ones that is planned but not outlined yet.

4. Try 4 new recipes

Chrissy Teigen’s Chinese Chicken Salad with Crispy Wonton Skins

Momofuku Milk Bar’s Birthday Layer Cake

A form of baked brussels sprouts

A new smoothie bowl since I’ve been making the same exact açai bowl for about a month now

5. Do my skin routine every night

I just purchased the Drunk Elephant “The Littles” set and I can’t wait to see what the results are…but I kind of can because I don’t want to fall in love with it because..well...it’s pricey

6. Track which days I spend $0

I wanted to start out by saying “don’t spend money x number of days” but I figured I should start by tracking what my normal spending habits are before I just give myself a number...you know...to be realistic (see what I did there).

These are all habits that I either already do or know that I can improve upon. For me, setting goals are achievable is the most important. You can’t set goals that are dependent upon someone else. For example, the goal of getting a new job. You can interview at 10 different places, but ultimately it’s not up to you whether or not someone offers you a job. But saying “I’m going to apply to 5 different jobs.” That is a goal that you are completely in control of and can obtain on your own.

So go ahead and set some achievable goals that YOU are in control of and see what all you can accomplish!
